In 1999, the Panganiban couple posed with Sen. Jovito R. Salonga, whom the Chief Justice has repeatedly and endearing called his “lifetime guru and mentor.” They first met while the former Senate President was the College of Law dean at Far Eastern University and the retired Chief Justice, a law student.
