Artemio V. Panganiban was inducted to office as the 21st Chief Justice of the Republic of the Philippines on December 21, 2006 by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in Malacanang Palace. Official witnesses were (left to right) Former Chief Justice Andres R. Narvasa, Former CJ Hilario G. Davide Jr., Professor Elenita C. Panganiban, Grandson Jose Miguel P. Sandejas, Grandson Rafael P. Yaptangco, Daughter Maria Elena P. Yaptangco, Son-in-law Alex Yaptangco, Dr. Jose Sandejas, Mrs. Elenita Sandejas, Mr. Manuel Manalac and Mrs. Erlinda Manalac. After the oath-taking, President Arroro hosted a merienda-reception at the Palace for the 200 guests who attended the ceremony.
